Most Golf Insurers include this, but the amount can vary. Many charge extra for European and Worldwide Cover separately. The recommended minimum is £5 million.

If you think you are covered on your house insurance check the small print or call them as very few, if any, provide cover for sport-related injuries and if your home club has a blanket policy it will probably not cover you when you play elsewhere and definitely not overseas.

Many golf insurance policies only replace equipment on a New for Old basis if your equipment is less than 2 or 3 years old AND it was brand new when you purchased it!

This is very restrictive cover and if you do not replace your clubs with brand new on a regular basis, your cover will revert to second hand value and if not careful you may continue paying a new for old premium and only receive second hand cover in the event of a claim.

Choose a policy that provides TRUE ‘New for Old’ cover ie replaces equipment of any age with Brand New.

You may wish to reconsider as most golfers equipment would cost over £2000 to replace and thousands of golfers have their equipment stolen every year, or suffer some form of loss or damage.

Check this level of cover very carefully! Over 70% of golf equipment claims happen at night, most cheap golf insurance providers do not accept claims for theft that occur at night or from your home or place of work.

Read the small print or call the insurer and ask.

Do not totally rely on your house insurance; most only cover theft from your car whilst in a locked garage. If you tend to leave your golf equipment in your car choose a policy that gives 24hour cover. Note: Over 70% of golf equipment thefts from cars happen at night.

Make sure the policy you are considering provides for ANY accident or illness. Many insurers only settle claims for golf-related accidents on the golf course which is worthless following surgery, a car or ski accident etc. Check the small print!

If you are a member of a private golf club you should reconsider as the right choice of cover could reimburse your membership fees in the event of accident or illness anywhere.

Very few companies offer this facility so check the small print as any excess in the event of a claim can make your cheap policy become very expensive! Some companies do not accept any claims below £100

Be careful here as most companies charge an excess in the event of total loss claims and when you add that excess to the premium paid your policy could become very expensive!

You are wise to consider this high level of cover; some companies only offer £2,500.

Are you sure? A wayward golf shot into the car park can cause a lot of damage to expensive cars. This could cost you an awful lot of money!
