This web site is designed to help you better understand the wide variations of cover offered by many of the Internet based Golf Insurance companies that have emerged over the past few years.
They are in the main, price driven, offering free gifts and discounts and a range of cover that appears to provide you with all you need for a very cheap annual premium, and are presented to tempt you to sign up to that all important 'Direct Debit'. The emergence of these Insurance products via on-line web site applications has of course removed traditional brokerage margins i.e. overheads and subsequently reduced premiums...
For consumers that can only be a good thing.
However, there is a down side to this scenario!
We are all taught 'sign nothing until you have read the small print'; it's so obvious we NEVER need to be told it twice!.
However, the reality is, when it comes to buying any form of insurance, most of us are guilty of not reading the small print, believing that one policy is the same as another, so buy the cheapest, failing to check the cover you actually get could cause you serious financial distress when making a claim.
A typical example is the Fire that completely destroyed the trolley shed at Muswell Hill Golf Club in July 2011. 41 golfers suffered total losses, it later transpired that the majority of members were uninsured believing they were covered by the golf club or their respective house insurance policies.
The painful reality is detailed below...
Over 30 trolleys turned out to be uninsured:
Thomas Hand had been insured with Golfcare for 5 years, his claim for total loss of his £400 electric trolley was refused on two counts, 1. it was 'left unattended' and
2. Golfcare offers no cover during the hours of darkness i.e. between 10pm and 8am if stolen, lost or damaged overnight, even from your car.
Seven trolleys were insured with Golfplan Insurance, each claimant received a new replacement trolley within 5 days of the fire via PGA Golf Professional David Wilton.
Mr Hand was incensed, cancelled his policy with Golfcare believing it was not fit for purpose, and subsequently took out a 'PGA recommended' policy with Golfplan Insurance. This is just one example of many, how that small amount you think you are saving when buying cheap insurance, can prove to be very costly when you claim.
We hope you find this web content of interest, there are certainly lots of answers to many questions and if we do no more than alert you to the importance of 'reading the small print' before buying any golf insurance, then we have succeeded in our mission.
